Remembering Why We Celebrate Christmas

“You can’t mix oil with water.”

The old cliché seems odd for a Christmas blog, but just as oil won’t mix with water, sin won’t mix with God. God is 100% good, so evil can never be in His presence. About God, Psalm 5:4 says, “You’re not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell.” The Bible tells us in Psalm 100: 5, “For the Lord is good…” Every good thing on this earth comes from God, and He is the origin of all love.

According to the Bible, after God formed the world, He created humans to fellowship with Him, but He gave us free will rather than force us to choose Him. It’s easy to see why when we remember, we may compel others to do things they don’t want to, but it will not change what’s in their hearts. God wanted us to love Him with all our hearts and souls. (Matthew 22: 37.) Unfortunately, the first humans made a different choice and let evil into the perfect paradise God had given us. Thus, all their descendants were born into a place where sin taints us. Still, God our creator loves us so much He wanted to save us.

Remembering Why We Celebrate Christmas

He sent his only son, Jesus. Born human, but in God’s likeness spiritually, Jesus is the only perfect person to live on earth. He was completely without sin. Only He can stand in God’s presence. God sent Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins. When Jesus rose from the grave He broke the chains of sin and death. Now, cleansed by the blood of Christ, we can enter God’s presence.

In Jesus, God gave us the ultimate Christmas gift, everlasting life free from the pain, trials and tribulations of this world. However, until we accept Jesus’ gift we can’t stand before God without sin. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” By God’s grace we are saved when we acknowledge we are sinners and accept Jesus who paid the price for all of us.

At Christmas, amid all of the busyness and glitter, an image of a tiny baby lying in a manger in Bethlehem shines the brightest. Celebrate His birth, remember His sacrifice, and rejoice in His victory.

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)

About the Author

Gail Pallotta is the author of the Discipleship Series, consisting of three Christian Romantic Suspense books, Hidden Danger, Dangerous Detour and Dangerous Shadows.

Hidden Danger book series

In Hidden Danger Emily Hanover goes to Sky High Campground to put her life back together after she’s left standing at the altar on her wedding day. Instead of finding peace, she sees a man carrying a dead body in the night. And to make matters worse, the security guard, Nick Lancaster, believes she saw a man with a deer. However, after he spots holes in the ground, he and Emily launch an investigation to solve the mystery. In the face of danger romance blossoms.

In Dangerous Detour Moose and Ruthie, try to go home for Christmas. Is it possible for them to escape the man chasing them through the frozen North Carolina Mountains? Four people face the winter storm—two have lost their way; one has lost his purpose and one has lost his soul.

In Dangerous Shadows the characters from Hidden Danger and Dangerous Detour meet after a theft occurs at Hilltop College in Western North Carolina. There’s a horrifying assault, a stalker and a murdered gambler. Is it possible to put the pieces together? If anyone can, it’s Nick, Emily and Hucklesford.

The Kindle copy of Dangerous Shadows is on sale for a limited time for .99. Or, buy two of the three books for $5.98. Better yet, for three times the fun, snag all three for $10.97.
