The Problem with Resolutions
Every year we look forward to a fresh start. It’s a chance to improve and grow. But for many, our resolutions to do that fail. Why? Typically, our resolutions are for big things that can’t be done in a day. We work for a few days and don’t see measurable progress. Then we wonder, “What’s the use?” Thankfully, we can fix this problem because a plan is better than a resolution!
What if you could see measurable progress? Might you be encouraged to keep working at improvement or growth? Probably so. The tool you need is a well laid out plan instead of a resolution. With a plan, you can break up that big change or goal into smaller steps. Then you work toward the small steps and can celebrate once you reach them before the end of the year. That will encourage you to keep going. You won’t realize it, but progress toward those small steps can form good habits which will make it easier to reach your big goal!
Simple Plan Example
How about using this plan to grow spiritually – spend 5 minutes with God each day. This is not a huge commitment that will take tons of self-discipline and effort. It is small ask of yourself that will yield big rewards. Once you develop the habit of sharing a few minutes with the Almighty each day, gradually increase the time so you can really enjoy our Lord and He can enjoy you! That’s something you can be excited about each day.
If you’d like help to get started, here is an easy tool. My book, Have You Heard from God Lately? 30 Messages from Heaven to You has 30 Bible messages that can be read in 5 minutes a day. After 30 days, you’ll have a good habit of meeting with God!
