Why We Need the Bible

Why do we need the Bible?  What does it matter if we read it or not? How does it matter if a government or the Chinese Communist Party alters it (as discussed in last month’s post)?

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)

God’s Word, the Bible, is like a light showing you where to walk on a dark night.  Without the light, you can’t see where you are going and will likely not reach the destination.  Most probably you will trip or wander into danger and get hurt.  Just as physical peril awaits those who literally walk in darkness, spiritual peril is waiting for those who walk in spiritual darkness.  However, with the spiritual, the stakes are much higher.

Spiritually, everyone is on a journey toward one of two destinations, Heaven or Hell.  The problem is humans can’t see the spiritual, so we have no idea which road we are on or which direction we are going.  Literally we are groping in spiritual darkness hoping we won’t fall and will reach Heaven.  Yet this is a vain hope.  Its impossible to reach Heaven by accident or even on purpose by being good or inventing your own religion.  The Almighty knows this, and thankfully, cares so much that He did not leave us lost alone in the dark.  He sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue us. (Luke 19:10)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

Jesus is our only way out of the darkness, He is the only way to know God the Father, and the only way to Heaven.  We know of Jesus and the salvation He offers because the Lord has recorded everything we need in the Bible.  All other ideas are hopelessly wrong because they are NOT from God.  This is why its a crime against the human soul to tamper with the Bible like liberal theologians and communist governments are doing. Just as tragic are the many people are fooled by gurus and false prophets who say they have found the light without Jesus.  If that were possible Jesus would not have needed to come and rescue us!  Friend, don’t follow a broken compass or a man-made map.  Instead rely on the Lord’s map and make the Bible your compass.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)

God’s Word is pure, right, and reliable.  Read it every day and learn to trust Him.  Then He will be your shield against the spiritual darkness of this world and provide light for your path.
